food and booze
Apr. 28th, 2003 10:31 amAh, the simple joys of a wavekave BBQ. I got on the road a bit late yesterday...pretty close to noon, which meant no way I'd make London by 2 but ah well. Had a great drive; one of those where every minute feels incredibly long but you don't really care because it's sunny and you're relaxed and at peace.
Listened to the two newest Ellis Paul albums; both from last year (Sweet Mistakes was a mail-order only thing; Speed of Trees is his first "normal" album since 1998). And, wow, the guy continues to be really good; I hadn't given these works my full ear yet. "Sweet Mistakes" comes close to edging out "Last Call" as his simply best work. The "new" Woodie Guthrie song (the estate requested that he dig through old unrecorded stuff, pick something, clean it up, set music as necessary, and record it) simply rocks.
Then Gorka's first album, clear the border, Rumors, boom! I'm there. Much bullshitting and food and alcohol and ultimate frisbee. Hard to say much more than that. Homemade sushi excellent. And my god...if you want to rip on American beer, at least provide some decent Canadian stuff. Love hanging out with you guys and it's going to be a bummer to be so much further....maybe I'll get one more chance.
Drive back kinda sucked; made horrible time and didn't get back until 2:30. Listened to Blackmore's Night (need more of their albums) and the Gypsy Guerrilla Band; then switched over to Cosby to keep me awake. They need to get 200MPH out on CD.
