September was The Last Unicorn, Jericho Season 3, Princess of Mars, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, and Usagi Drop. Squee.
The Last Unicorn (Peter S. Beagle): Such a hyped book that, even though it was perfectly enjoyable, I kept expecting something more. The first third is almost poetry; then it evolves into a conventional, but self-aware, fantasy story. The ending, at least, was very satisfying.
Jericho Season 3: A worthwhile continuation to the TV series; I could easily see these plot threads going on screen. Unfortunately, it's very rushed, trying to cram too much plot into too few pages. The character interactions which defined Jericho get squeezed out as a result. Even more plot threads are opened, leaving season 3 with less resolution than season 2.
Princess of Mars: The 2009 version, which I watched in anticipation of the new John Carter movie. It's...bad. I'm not sure if they forgot to write the script, or forgot to give it to anybody on set, but the result was a lot of standing around posturing. Often in silence. I gave up after thirty minutes.
You Don't Mess With the Zohan: Despite dire warnings, this turned out almost exactly how I expected: a festival of ridiculous Adam Sandler. The best lines are in the trailer, but there are plenty more where those came from, and it does capture the feel of the movie pretty well. Recommended if you want stupid over-the-top fun.
Usagi Drop: Up there with Card Captor Sakura as the show that most makes me want to have an adorable little girl just like that. It's a simple slice-of-life show that rests entirely on the relationship between Rin and Daikichi and how they fit into each others' lives. I enjoyed every minute, including the opening and ending songs. We don't get enough shows like this; watch it.
